The energy of the Summertime is Fire. It is heat and light, the warmth of the sun, and long, light-filled days of summer. Fire is expansive and kinetic, a metaphor for the life force itself. The growth that began so powerfully and rapidly in the Spring now reaches a peak of lush maturity, as all of Nature flowers and begins to bear fruit.
We experience this energy most powerfully in the summertime of our lives—in young adulthood, the time of our sexual maturity and the fuller development of our personalities. From the branches of our emerging identity we put forth the flowers of expression. It is then that we experience relationship—the sharing of expression with others, both socially and intimately. As adults, if we are healthy and our lives allow it, we experience Fire as expansion, communication, expression, connectedness, love, sexuality, and joy. We are warm, happy, and loving, with a capacity to enjoy life, as we reach our physical, mental, and emotional maturity. Activities appropriate to Summer and Fire are: continuing projects begun in the Spring; cultivating our gardens and watching them flower; communicating and relating to others; expressing ourselves, our ideas and emotions to a broader audience; connecting to others in an intimate way; and having "fun in the sun."
