Pulse diagnosis is a heuristic art that combines training and sensitivity with classical medical theory. Various models of pulse diagnosis have been developed since the time of the Huang Di Nei Jing, each of them viewing the body and the internal organs from different perspectives of structure and energetic principles. My goal here is not to describe how those pulse models developed historically, but to utilize and build upon classical theories to present a contemporary, integrated model exemplified by Dong Han pulse diagnosis. In developing this model, my goal is to exhibit an internal consistency that demonstrates new, unsuspected, and far-reaching significance in classical pulse positions and pulse qualities.
